Preventing Vaginal Thrush

Posted by hidup sehat On Friday, December 30, 2011 1 comments

Health statistics tell us that over 50 percent of all women will develop a vaginal yeast infection — also known as vaginal thrush — over the course of their lives. This annoying infection is caused by the Candida albicans yeast, a type of fungus that overgrows and causes infection in the moist, dark and airless environment of the vagina.  It is characterized by a red, itchy and sore rash around the entrance to the vagina and vulva, irritation and often biting pain. Some women also have embarrassing discharge and odor, and experience pain during urination and intercourse.

In many cases, however, new infections or aggravation of existing ones can be prevented by making some simple lifestyle choices:

Don’t wear tight clothes
Any clothing, such as tight jeans, synthetic leggings or tight-fitting underwear that reduces the air flow around the genital area, can create an environment that encourages Candida growth.  Stick to natural materials that don’t cling or bind and avoid tight fitting synthetics at all times.

Stay clean and perfume-free
vaginal thrush
It’s important to wash the vaginal area every day, but take care not to use a soap or deodorants that irritate the skin. Although they may seem harmless, perfumed soaps and vaginal deodorants can alter the delicate balance of micro-organisms in your vagina that are thought to keep Candida albicans in check.

Be careful with sanitary products
Change your tampons or sanitary pads on a regular basis when you’re menstruating or if you wear pads the rest of the month because of vaginal discharge. Never use scented sanitary products, because they can alter the pH of your vaginal area and encourage yeast growth.

A 1-year-old boy living in New York City had a rapid increase in blood lead levels, and the likely source of the exposure was traced to a Cambodian amulet made from knotted string and metallic beads, according to researchers from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the CDC.
Testing revealed that the beads contained 45 percent lead, the researchers reported in Jan. 28 issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
The boy had worn the amulet — "something to protect him," his father said — since he was 3 months old, and had been seen putting it in his mouth.

Start with the first tip and then add one more idea each day to help improve your memory:
1. Focus on what you're trying to remember. Take time to think about what you need to remember, whether it's a list of names, chores, or items to buy. Spending a few moments actively processing your thoughts can make it easier to recall what you need to remember in the future.
2. Link your list. Try to remember several things or ideas at once by linking them together in your mind. If you want to memorize your grocery list, for instance, connect the items you need together

Study Finds Illness, Medical Bills Root Cause of Majority Of U.S. Bankruptcies

Unemployment is high and retirement accounts have virtually disappeared for many folks in the wake of the current recession. Housing prices have plummeted, too. So it comes as no surprise that data just released by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts shows the total number of U.S. bankruptcies filed during the first three months of 2009 increased 34.5 percent over the same period in 2008. But what is surprising is a new Harvard study published in the August 2009 issue of The American Journal of Medicine which reveals financial woes starting hitting Americans even before the officially recognized economic downturn -- and the main culprit was illness and medical bills.

Vaccine attacks breast cancer in 2012

United States said Monday they have developed a vaccine that attacks tumors in mice, a breakthrough they hope will help fight breast, colon, ovarian and pancreatic cancer in humans.
Although studies on mice often do not translate directly into remedies that work for human subjects, researchers are hopeful because of the strength of the vaccine and the particular approach it takes.
"This vaccine elicits a very strong immune response," said study co-senior author Geert-Jan Boons, a professor of chemistry and a researcher in the University of Georgia Cancer Center.
"It activates all three components of the immune system to reduce tumor size by an average of 80 percent."
The vaccine works by training the immune system to attack tumors that have a protein known asMUC1 on the surface of their cells, according to the study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

It's amazing the way people will spout off these fake statistics that men think about sex nearly constantly and so much more often than women do," lead author Terri Fisher, a professor of psychology, said in a university news release. "When a man hears a statement like that, he might think there's something wrong with him because he's not spending that much time thinking about sexuality, and when women hear about this, if they spend significant time thinking about sex they might think there's something wrong with them."

There is, however, one disadvantage to this process as medical consultations rarely come for free. If you’re unlucky enough to choose an online pharmacy that overcharges for consultations with their physicians, be prepared to break the bank. On a side note, some types of insurance may not cover an online medical consultation, which means you’ll have to shell out extra bucks on top of your online drugstore purchase.

What You Need to Know about Vaginal Infections

Posted by hidup sehat On Monday, November 14, 2011 2 comments

Having a vaginal infection is very common among women but not everyone who gets it is comfortable enough to discuss it or have it checked by a doctor. Up to about a few years back, this subject cannot even be easily talked about on TV. However, with the recent increase of diseases concerning women, infomercials are now bold enough to relay information about the topic and other related issues. Television commercials nowadays also include products for vaginal infections like vaginal creams.
The common symptoms of an infection in the vagina is itching and burning of the affected area. This is normally caused by a sudden change of the female organ’s normal pH count brought about by sex, use of douches, use of contraceptives like IUDs, and other foreign objects that is goes inside the vagina such as spermicidal creams and gels, tampons and even stray feces.
Antibiotics are also considered as a major cause. When you take antibiotics for a certain bacterial infection somewhere else in your body, they may also attack the good bacteria in your vagina that maintains a healthy environment.
Other conditions that can influence the condition are the following: pregnancy, diabetes, eating too much sweets and sugary foods, hormonal changes during post-menopausal stage, oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy. Bacterial infections of the female organ may also be sexually transmitted.

The number 1 killer in the United States and how you can beat it

Posted by hidup sehat On 0 comments

Do you know what the number one killer in much of the developed world and especially the United States is? The answer is heart disease. With all the junk food that is available nowadays heart disease has turned in to the biggest killer today. So how can we beat this serial killer and add a few more years to our lives you ask? The answer is simple. We just need to eat healthier and the risk or contracting any sort of heart problem is greatly reduced. In fact you can add about 15 years to your life by just changing a few things in your diet.

The answer is really eating more raw foods and mostly vegetable foods. Raw vegetable foods contain zero cholestrol which is what causes heart disease in the first place. The reason people in the past sought to cook food so much is that it was often dirty and it would make us sick if we tried to consume it as it was. In African villages, people that do not have running water must go to the rivers and get it from there. Of course it is not clean so what do they do? They boil it first to kill the germs and then let it cool and then they will drink it. Nowadays the food we get from the stores is basically edible when we get it. We also wash the food at home so it is very safe for us to consume already. That means we are not taking any risks if we go raw with out diets, or at least replace some of our unhealthy eating habits with raw food.

Some people might be asking what is the main difference between raw and cooked food? Well the thing is when food is being cooked, the temperatures get so high that most of the nutrients present in the food will be destroyed! That means that we are not getting in as many nutrients as we would be led to believe. Many diseases that are prevalent today come about because people do not get as many nutrients as they should from the food they are eating.

Skin transformed for cancer fight

Posted by hidup sehat On Friday, November 11, 2011 2 comments

Scientists have opened up the possibility of one day using cancer patients' own skin to fight their tumours.
Oxford University researchers transformed skin cells into immune cells, which could be used to trigger a hunt for cancer.
It was achieved only in the laboratory, not in people, meaning any therapy is a long way off.
However, the researchers believe it will be possible.
Harnessing the power of the immune system is a field being pursued by cancer researchers, such as in the search for cancer vaccines.
The conductor
This study, published in the journal Gene Therapy, was focused on dendritic cells, which organise part of the immune response.
By showing identifying markers - or antigens - they tell the immune system what to attack. If they display cancer markers, cancerous cells will become the target.
Dr Paul Fairchild, from the Oxford Stem Cell Institute, said trials into dendritic cells, harvested from a patient's blood, had taken place before, but they fired up only part of the immune system.
His team used advances in stem cell technology to create new dendritic cells from a patient's skin. These were primed to trigger an attack on melanomas using a marker, Melan A, which is unique to the cancer.
Experiments in the laboratory showed these dendritic cells were able to activate both immune cells which produce antibodies and those which kill other cells.
Dr Fairchild said: "The patient would in effect be treated with their own immune cells to prime an attack on their tumour."
He acknowledges that any therapy is a distant prospect. The cost and a safe method of producing stem cells are two of the barriers.
Even then he pictures a treatment working alongside, rather than replacing, other therapies: "It is a long and arduous process compared with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It's extremely labour intensive."
Dr Caetano Reis e Sousa, a Cancer Research UK immunology expert, said: "By showing that normal body cells can be reprogrammed to become a sub-type of dendritic cells with superior activity, this research builds on previous work by Cancer Research UK scientists using blood stem cells as starting material.
"The next challenge is to confirm that these laboratory-generated cells will be suitable for immunotherapy-based cancer-treatments used in the clinic."

Fibre and whole grains 'reduce bowel cancer risk'

Posted by hidup sehat On 0 comments

Researchers from Imperial College London found that for every 10g a day increase in fibre intake, there was a 10% drop in the risk of bowel cancer.
But their analysis of 25 previous studies found that fruit and vegetable fibre did not reduce risk.
A cancer charity called for more detailed research on the quantity and type of fibre to eat.
Eating fibre and whole grains is known to help protect against cardiovascular disease, but experts say that any link with colorectal cancer is less clear because studies have not had consistent results.
"It is encouraging to know that simple changes to your diet and lifestyle could help protect you from the UK's second biggest cancer killer."
Yinka Ebo, senior health information officer at Cancer Research UK, said the review added weight to the evidence that fibre protects against bowel cancer.
"It shows that certain sources of fibre, such as cereal and whole grains, are particularly important.
"Eating plenty of fibre is just one of many things you can do to lower your risk of developing the disease, along with keeping a healthy weight, being physically active, cutting down on alcohol, red and processed meat, and not smoking."

HERBAL CANCER TREATMENT

Posted by hidup sehat On Thursday, November 10, 2011 2 comments

Many herbs (including astragalus, dong quai, echinacea, and Asian ginseng) supposedly "boost" the immune system and so shore up the body against future or existing cancer. Extremely small studies suggest that shiitake or maitake mushrooms, mistletoe, extracts of the Venus flytrap, and various botanical therapies used in traditional Chinese medicine may help treat certain forms of cancer. But until better evidence is in, we cannot completely rely on them. Ginger, and maybe some other herbs, may help relieve nausea that often accompanies conventional cancer therapies.

Iscador (Mistletoe Extract)
Mistletoe (Viscum album L.) is a semi-parasitic plant that lives with several tree species, including oak, pine, fir, elm and apple, and has been used since ancient times to treat a variety of human ailments. Extracts of mistletoe have been shown to kill cancer cells in the laboratory and to stimulate the immune system.

Only the European species of mistletoe is used in the treatment of cancer. Mistletoe preparations are used to stimulate the immune system and to kill cancer cells. It has been reported to reduce tumor size and improve the quality of life and survival of some cancer patients. Three components of mistletoe (lectins, alkaloids and viscotoxins) may be responsible for its biologic effects.

To understand how to choose a lawyer for this disease, you should first understand the basics of the disease. In the simplest sense, mesothelioma is a cancer of the protective layers of the body cavities, known as the mesothelium.
These tissues have different names depending on the organs they protect. You have probably heard of the peritoneum–this is the covering around the stomach and intestines. Other organs and cavities have their own membranes as well.
Mesothelioma is a cancer of these tissues. They often do not just affect the tissues–they affect the organs they surround and can spread elsewhere. This cancer is most often contracted by exposure to asbestos, a highly dangerous mineral often found in floors, ceilings, and some products.

mesothelioma treatment diagnosis

Posted by hidup sehat On Friday, November 4, 2011 0 comments

A diagnosis is always difficult, whether it is pleural mesothelioma or another variety. Because this is such an aggressive malignancy, patients and their families may have a difficult time addressing the issue of treatment. However, because options for mesothelioma patients are steadily increasing, the discussion of treatment with one’s primary oncologist, family members, and loved ones is important. Nearly all mesothelioma patients have treatment options-be they curative or palliative that can extend survival, alleviate pain, and increase quality of life.

Each mesothelioma case is considered individually and there is no singular prescribed roadmap for the management of malignant mesothelioma. What's best for each individual patient will depend on any number of factors. Diagnostic procedures such as x-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and biopsies will be used to determine these factors and these tests will assist your primary care physician and/or oncologist in determining the best treatment for the individual and their particular circumstances.

Angina Pectoris is a clinical syndrome characterized by intermittent (paroxysmal) chest pain caused by reversible myocardial ischemia. The pain is usually substernal or precordial radiating to the left shoulder and arm or to the jaw. It lasts for several minutes.
Angina Pectoris Types

Stable Angina: It occurs due to increased myocardial oxygen demand during exertion in a patient of narrow coronary arteries. It is relieved promptly by rest and nitroglycerine.
Variant Angina (Prinzmetal’s Angina): It occurs at rest and is not a result of increased myocardial demand. It is produced by the episodic reduction of the myocardial blood supply due to coronary artery spasm.
Unstable Angina: In this type of angina, frequency, severity and duration of episode are progressively increased, frequently occurring at rest.
Platelet aggregation (thrombus formation) and coronary. Artery spasm are considered to be the cause of such type of angina. Unstable angina may lead to myocardial infarction very rapidly.

How Good is High Fiber Diet for Women

Posted by hidup sehat On 1 comments

"If a woman does not feel well, she will go to a doctor, but if a man is unwell, he will normally try and ignore it."

According to the Greek physician Hippocrates 'a wise man ought to realize that his health is his most valuable possession, unfortunately most men fail to take this advice seriously. The fact is that a man’s average life is shorter than that of a woman’s average life and for fifteen years of that life he can expect to be chronically ill.

A survey states that over a third of American men have not had a medical check up last year, while around nine million men have not visited a doctor in five years. These statistics are staggering. It is estimated that men make a 150 million fewer trips to the doctor than women, every year!

Researchers explain that this is very common in most men across the world. Most men feel that a visit to the doctor is a threat to their masculinity.

Added to this are fear, denial and embarrassment. Researchers believe that from a young age men are taught to hold their heads high and ‘get tough’. Admitting to pain or any other problems is seen as a confession to being weak and threatens male pride and machismo.

Some grim statistics
The majority of men are too heavy for their health: 45% are medically defined as overweight and an additional 17% as obese.
28% of men still smoke.
27% of men drink alcohol at a level that could be harmful to their health.
41% of all male deaths under the age of 75 are caused by circulatory diseases, the largest single cause of death. Of these deaths, over two-thirds are due to coronary heart disease. Each year, over 130,000 men of all ages die from circulatory diseases.
31% of all male deaths under the age of 75 are caused by cancer. Each year, over 124,000 men of all ages are newly diagnosed with cancer and over 80,000 die.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer affecting men alone. The number of new cases diagnosed is expected to treble over the next 20 years.
The suicide rate among men is increasing. The rate has doubled among 15–24 year old men in the past 25 years.
Men are at Greater Health Risks than Women
Men are raised to be providers and caretakers, taking very little care of themselves and their health. As a consequence, before the age of 65 men are 2.5 times more likely to suffer from a heart attack than women, and one in three men will suffer from high blood pressure.

Traditional Medical Records vs Electronic Medical Records

Posted by hidup sehat On Saturday, October 29, 2011 1 comments
A paper patient record is recognized by name, serial, membership, reference or medical record number, and other identifiers that make it easier to find in the physical filing system. It takes long time to sort thousands of files, whenever patient or doctor requires checking previous medical history or updating the status of record. On other hand, an EHR provides dissimilar identifying information for each patient, and identifiers to locate the digital record among any number of records. Due to its digital nature, finding patient record is concern of merely seconds.

If a paper chart is filed correctly in the medical records system, a staff member must go to the stacks of charts, using some quick identifier code. After matching the exact last name and first name, then the chart is "pulled" for desired review. Sometimes, a placeholder is inserted in stack, to make re-filing easier and for reference where the chart is headed. In this whole manual process, there is great potential of human mistake; any file can be lost easily due to slight negligence. An electronic chart is never lost, out, or misfiled because it is always exactly where it should be. An electronic record may be accessed from any point in a healthcare facility that has access to medical records.

Safe Diets to Lower Cholesterol

Posted by hidup sehat On 0 comments
If you have high cholesterol and want to lower it, you may consider changing your diet. There is no shortage of diets on the market today to help you do this.

You can lower your cholesterol by eating foods which include more plant-based foods. Foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes are great excellent substitutes for high cholesterol foods. Choose foods like cereals, breads, rice, pasta, and other grains, as well as dry beans and peas. These are high in starch and fiber and low in saturated fat and calories. These kinds of foods naturally contain a low amount of fat and cholesterol and should be added to your menu; but some bakery breads and sweet bread products that are made with high-fat, high-cholesterol milk, butter, and eggs should be consumed sparingly.

Six to eleven servings of foods from this group each day is recommended. People who have a low HDL (the "good" cholesterol), should keep their carbohydrate intake below the maximum of 60 percent of total calories. Too many carbohydrates will force your liver to increase its production of cholesterol resulting in high cholesterol rather then decreasing the cholesterol in the blood.

We’ve discussed Black Ant Sex Pills before but I thought it might be time for a bit of an update as the more I learn about this amazing sexual supplement the more I like it.

Black Ant Sex Pills is one of our top sellers. In fact, it outsells every other male sexual enhancer we offer by a good 10 to 1 margin. Black Ant is the perfect “entry-level” male enhancer.

For those who are just testing the male enhancement waters Black Ant is a great way to see what all the hoopla is about. They work and they are inexpensive. You can purchase a pack of four for only $8.99 plus shipping. That in my opinion is a small price to pay for at least four great sexual experiences. I say at least four because as with most of our male sexual enhancement supplements, one pill can induce multiple erections with an equal number of spine jarring ejaculations.

But what is Black Ant? Black Ant Aphrodisiac is a natural herbal supplement based on a Chinese Sex Medicine recipe literally thousands of years old. In recent years this recipe has been made even more powerful and effective through the use of modern bioengineering technology. The main ingredient in Black Ant is Polyrhachis Vicina Roger which is the fancy scientific name for the Chinese black ant. That’s right – there really is black ant in Black Ant.

Blood is the fluid found in all living things (except plants) that serves to send a high level of substances and oxygen needed by body tissues, carrying chemical products of metabolism, as well as the body's defense against viruses or bacteria. The medical term relating to the blood begins with the word hemo-or hemato-derived from the Greek Haima meaning blood.

In insects, the blood (or better known as hemolimfe) is not involved in the circulation of oxygen. Oxygen in the insect tracheal system be circulated through the ducts that channel air directly into the body tissues. Insect blood transports substances to the body tissues and remove metabolic waste materials.

In other animals, the main function of blood is to transport oxygen from the lungs or gills to body tissues. Hemoglobin contained in blood that serves as the binding of oxygen. In most invertebrates or invertebrates are small, the direct oxygen plasma to seep into the blood because the oxygen-carrying protein freely dissolved. Hemoglobin is the oxygen-carrying protein found in the most effective and vertebrate animals or vertebrates. Hemosianin, blue, containing copper, and is used by animals crustaceans. Squid using vanadium kromagen (light green, blue, orange or yellow).

Human blood

Human blood is a fluid tissue. Its main function is to transport oxygen required by cells throughout the body. Blood also supplies the body tissues with nutrients, transporting metabolic waste substances, and contain a variety of materials making up the immune system that aims to defend the body from various diseases. The hormones of the endocrine system is also circulated through the blood.

Human blood is red, the bright red when oxygenated to dark red when deprived of oxygen. The red color of the blood caused by hemoglobin, the protein breathing (respiratory proteins) that contain iron in the form of heme, which is where the bound oxygen molecules.

Humans have a closed circulatory system which means the blood flow in blood vessels and circulated by the heart. Blood is pumped by the heart to the lungs to remove metabolic waste in the form of carbon dioxide and absorb oxygen through the pulmonary artery, and then taken back to the heart via the pulmonary veins. After the blood was sent to the whole body by the blood vessels of the aorta. Blood circulate oxygen throughout the body via the blood subtle channels called capillaries. The blood is then returned to the heart through a vein and superior vena cava inferior vena cava.

Blood also transports metabolic waste materials, drugs and foreign chemicals to the liver to be degraded and the kidneys to be excreted as urine.

Facts about human blood

7% of human body weight is blood.
Blood consists of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets (platelets).
Human blood floating in yellow liquid called blood plasma. Blood plasma consists of 90% water and also consists of a variety of nutrients, electrolytes, gases, proteins, glucose and hormones.
Red blood cells are produced in the bone marrow and circulate throughout the body for 120 days.
White blood cells are the body's immune system is important. He was prevented from various bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, infections and others.
Platelets help blood clot in order to limit bleeding when our skin is injured. Blood clots can also have negative consequences, if clumping occurs in blood vessels and flow to the brain, can cause a stroke in humans.
If clumping flow to the heart it will lead to a heart attack.
In addition to the material flow an important ingredient for our body cells, blood also helps remove content that does not need our bodies.
Grouping of human blood types is a difficult process. Currently there are about 30 types of human blood (human blood group). We are more familiar with the system "ABO" a simpler system in which blood type is classified into O, A, B and AB. Already announcing friends blood type?
Many philanthropists donate blood each year. This blood is very important for the needy or created for research purposes.
Not everyone can donate blood. They should be checked first whether it has a disease that can be transmitted through blood.
Composition

The blood consists instead of a few types of corpuscles that form part of the blood of 45%, this figure hermatokrit expressed in value or volume of packed red blood cells which ranged from 40 to 47. 55% of the other sections in the form of a yellowish fluid that forms a liquid medium of the blood called blood plasma.

Blood corpuscles consist of:

Red blood cells or erythrocytes (about 99%).
Erythrocytes have no nucleus or organelles, and are not considered in terms of cell biology. Erythrocytes containing hemoglobin and distribute oxygen. Red blood cells also play a role in the determination of blood groups. People who suffer from deficiency anemia erythrocytes.
The fragments of blood or platelets (0.6 - 1.0%)
Platelets are responsible for blood clotting process.
White blood cells or leukocytes (0.2%)
Leukocytes are responsible for the body's immune system and served to destroy objects that are considered foreign and harmful by the body, such as viruses or bacteria. Leukocytes are amuboid or do not have a fixed shape. People who suffer from excess leukocyte leukemia, whereas people with low leukocyte leukopenia disease.
Composition of Blood. blood serum or plasma consists of:

Water: 91.0%
Protein: 8.0% (albumin, globulin, prothrombin and fibrinogen)
Minerals: 0.9% (sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, salts of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and iron, etc.)
Blood plasma is essentially an aqueous solution containing: -

albumin
blood clotting material
immunoglobulin (antibody)
hormone
various types of proteins
various types of salt
Health

Injuries can cause severe blood loss. Platelets cause blood to clot, the wound is small, but large wounds should be treated immediately to prevent blood shortages. Damage to internal organs can cause severe injuries or hemorrhage.

Hemophilia is a genetic disorder that causes malfunctions in a person's blood clotting. As a result, minor injuries can be life threatening.

Leukemia is a cancer on the body-forming tissues of white blood cells. This disease occurs due to errors in white blood cell division resulting in increased white blood cell count and then eat a normal white blood cells.

Severe bleeding, either by accident or not (as in surgery), as well as blood diseases like anemia and thalassemia, which requires blood transfusion. Several countries have blood banks to meet the demand for blood transfusions. Blood recipients should have the same blood type with the contributor.

Blood also is one of the "vector" in the transmission of the disease. One example of a disease can be transmitted through blood is AIDS. Blood containing the HIV virus from an HIV-positive living things can be transmitted to other living things through touch between the blood with blood, semen, or body fluids of living things are. Because of disease transmission can occur through blood, blood-containing objects regarded as biohazard or biological threats.

In the interests of the diagnosis of disease, blood pressure has a very important role.
