Preventing Vaginal Thrush

Posted by hidup sehat On Friday, December 30, 2011 1 comments

Health statistics tell us that over 50 percent of all women will develop a vaginal yeast infection — also known as vaginal thrush — over the course of their lives. This annoying infection is caused by the Candida albicans yeast, a type of fungus that overgrows and causes infection in the moist, dark and airless environment of the vagina.  It is characterized by a red, itchy and sore rash around the entrance to the vagina and vulva, irritation and often biting pain. Some women also have embarrassing discharge and odor, and experience pain during urination and intercourse.

In many cases, however, new infections or aggravation of existing ones can be prevented by making some simple lifestyle choices:

Don’t wear tight clothes
Any clothing, such as tight jeans, synthetic leggings or tight-fitting underwear that reduces the air flow around the genital area, can create an environment that encourages Candida growth.  Stick to natural materials that don’t cling or bind and avoid tight fitting synthetics at all times.

Stay clean and perfume-free
vaginal thrush
It’s important to wash the vaginal area every day, but take care not to use a soap or deodorants that irritate the skin. Although they may seem harmless, perfumed soaps and vaginal deodorants can alter the delicate balance of micro-organisms in your vagina that are thought to keep Candida albicans in check.

Be careful with sanitary products
Change your tampons or sanitary pads on a regular basis when you’re menstruating or if you wear pads the rest of the month because of vaginal discharge. Never use scented sanitary products, because they can alter the pH of your vaginal area and encourage yeast growth.

A 1-year-old boy living in New York City had a rapid increase in blood lead levels, and the likely source of the exposure was traced to a Cambodian amulet made from knotted string and metallic beads, according to researchers from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the CDC.
Testing revealed that the beads contained 45 percent lead, the researchers reported in Jan. 28 issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
The boy had worn the amulet — "something to protect him," his father said — since he was 3 months old, and had been seen putting it in his mouth.

2. Link your list. Try to remember several things or ideas at once by linking them together in your mind. If you want to memorize your grocery list, for instance, connect the items you need together

Unemployment is high and retirement accounts have virtually disappeared for many folks in the wake of the current recession. Housing prices have plummeted, too. But what is surprising is a new Harvard study published in the August 2009 issue of The American Journal of Medicine which reveals financial woes starting hitting Americans even before the officially recognized economic downturn -- and the main culprit was illness and medical bills.

Vaccine attacks breast cancer in 2012

United States said Monday they have developed a vaccine that attacks tumors in mice, a breakthrough they hope will help fight breast, colon, ovarian and pancreatic cancer in humans.
Although studies on mice often do not translate directly into remedies that work for human subjects, researchers are hopeful because of the strength of the vaccine and the particular approach it takes.
"This vaccine elicits a very strong immune response," said study co-senior author Geert-Jan Boons, a professor of chemistry and a researcher in the University of Georgia Cancer Center.
"It activates all three components of the immune system to reduce tumor size by an average of 80 percent."
The vaccine works by training the immune system to attack tumors that have a protein known asMUC1 on the surface of their cells, according to the study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Do Men Think About Sex?

Posted by hidup sehat On Thursday, December 15, 2011 1 comments

It's amazing the way people will spout off these fake statistics that men think about sex nearly constantly and so much more often than women do," lead author Terri Fisher, a professor of psychology, said in a university news release. "When a man hears a statement like that, he might think there's something wrong with him because he's not spending that much time thinking about sexuality, and when women hear about this, if they spend significant time thinking about sex they might think there's something wrong with them."

In a recent survey published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, more than one in three women admitted to experiencing low sexual desire in the past month. Hello--that's more than 40 million of us! While men can pop Viagra (those lucky bastards), women can't quick-fix their lack of desire with a magic pill. For us, there's more to it than blood flow.

"Take the time to assess yourself--not just physically but emotionally and mentally--and you'll be able to see what might be holding you back," says Patti Britton, Ph.D., a Los Angeles sexologist and author of The Art of Sex Coaching.

Online Pharmacy Prescriptions

Posted by hidup sehat On 0 comments
First, you look for an Internet pharmacy that suits your needs. Then, you go undergo an online consultation with one of that pharmacy’s doctors, who will then decide if your condition warrants a prescription or not. If it’s a yes, then you can have that prescription filled through the same Internet pharmacy.

There is, however, one disadvantage to this process as medical consultations rarely come for free. If you’re unlucky enough to choose an online pharmacy that overcharges for consultations with their physicians, be prepared to break the bank. On a side note, some types of insurance may not cover an online medical consultation, which means you’ll have to shell out extra bucks on top of your online drugstore purchase.
